Baldwin is open for early drop-off each day at 7:15 a.m. Breakfast is served at 7:15 a.m. Please have your child arrive at school by 7:30 a.m. Class begins promptly at 7:45 a.m., so if your child is not in the classroom by then, s/he will miss out on important instruction time, and will be counted tardy. If your child arrives to school after 8:00 a.m., please walk your child to the office to obtain a tardy permit to attend class, you will need to sign them in.
If you need to pick up your child for an appointment, please arrive to the office in plenty of time to retrieve your student from school. We will not be able to have your student wait for you in the office. You will need to sign them out, and wait for the office staff to go retrieve your student from class. If you haven't done so already, please bring your driver's license so that it may be scanned into our security system.
We would like to have every student attend school every day, but of course we understand that your child may become ill or have appointments with medical professionals from time to time, or that other circumstances may occur. Each absence, excused or unexcused, causes your child to miss classroom instruction time, which may negatively impact his/her education.
The Texas Education Agency compulsory attendance law is as follows: If a student fails to attend school for ten or more days or parts of days in a six month period in the same school year without an excuse OR for three or more days or parts of days within a four week period without an excuse, a compulsory attendance letter indicating the dates of the student's absences will be mailed home to parents. The parent is subject to prosecution under TEC 25.093. Each case can carry a fine of up to $500. It is the parent's duty to monitor their child's attendance and require their student to attend school.
State law also requires that a student may not be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance a minimum of 90% of the days the class meets. If a student is in attendance less than 90% of the class days, the student may risk not being promoted to the next grade level. An Attendance Committee will meet to decide if the student should be placed, or retained for the next year.
** If your child misses all or part of a day due to a medical appointment, please send the note into the Attendance Office within 2 school days to the office or to his/her teacher. Your child's attendance record will be updated to reflect the excused tardy or absence. If your child has remained home due to illness, you may handwrite a note giving the date(s) missed and the nature of the illness. You may also opt to fax notes/doctor's excuses to (512)841-8901. Please communicate with your child's teacher concerning any work your child may have missed. Please also be aware that any time your student is marked absent, the school district automatically calls you to ask you to send in a note, if applicable.
Reminder: If your child's transportation arrangements change on any particular day, the office must be notified BEFORE 2:00 pm. After that time, we can not guarantee that the teacher gets the information. Only emergency situations will be honored.
Please contact Angie Vega in the Attendance Office at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 512-841-8900 for any questions.
